A series of experiments done by combining generative AI and a hand puppet. With a short film included to demonstrate possible use of the effects.
Process
Puppet Fabrication
First, a simple cardboard base for the mouth was constructed and fit to my hand for ease of movement, with additional cardboard structures to make up the base structure of the head. Upholstery foam was then used for the remainder of the body construction. Once the construction and shaping of the body was completed, a duct tape pattern was created and used for the felt finish.
Video Production
A series of tests were done with different AI programs and prompts, including the use of green screen in pre vs post-production. For the final short film a video was created by recording puppet footage that was colored and decorated in later edits. Each short scene was then split into individual frames, and each frame was processed through Stable Diffusion one at a time. The final step was combining all the scenes with additional sound and visual effects to create a more coherent ambiance.
