Description
A couch with moving eyes, existing as a weirder version of Chairy from Peewee's playhouse. Created to be displayed at the 2024 Whaaat!? Festival.
Materials
Couch, tan filament, continuous rotation servo motors, Arduino Unos.
Process
1. The physical mechanics were designed and prototyped with a laser cut cardboard prototype.
2. New mechanics were modeled, printed, adjusted, and remodeled to be used in the final chair.
3. The chair was deconstructed by removing nails and staples, and then peeling back the layers of fabric and foam to get to the wooden structure inside.
4. The wooden structure was marked, drilled, and then chiseled down to make space for the mechanics to be added.
5. A wood board was added to the newly modified arms to support the eyes and mechanics to move it.
6. All modelled pieced were secured, and the servos were added temporarily to test the values for movement.
7. The servo movements were programmed, and altered to match varying power source types. Here is the final code.
8. Details were drawn onto the eyes, and foam and fabric were added to create eyelids.
9. The layers of foam and fabric that were previously peeled back were attached to each other, and then attached to Velcro, to make them easily removable.
